Aleppo (Syria) is one of the oldest inhabited cities of the world, it knew human settlement since the eleventh millennium B.C. It was known to the Greeks as Beroea, and to the Turks as Halep. It occupies a strategic trading point between the Mediterranean Sea and the Euphrates River.

Umayyad Mosque, Damascus
The Umayyad Mosque is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world. The mosque holds a shrine which is said to contain the head of John the Baptist, honored as a prophet by Muslims and Christians.
